This Victorian seaside town is one of the most popular places to visit for a break away from the city life or simply just for a weekend stay. The town is most famous for its connections to Alice In Wonderland, with one popular seafront hotel Llandudno being known as “where Alice stayed”. The famous books are based around Alice Liddell who visited the town when she was just 9 and is the inspiration behind the books.
As well as lovely restaurants and hotels where you can stay there is a wealth of things to see and do.
Llandudno Pier
The most popular tourist attraction for Llandudno is the pier. Llandudno Pier is the longest pier in Wales with a tonne of amusements to keep the kids (and adults) busy. Or why not pop along the pier for a few classic seaside tasty treats like hot doughnuts, fish and chips and perhaps a stick of rock. But be sure to take some home with you as a memento for your time in Llandudno.
The Great Orme
Travel up to the Great Orme, a stone’s throw from Llandudno’s beloved pier, where you will be greeted by a small shop, museum and even a crazy golf course. If you’re not much of a walker the walk can be a challenge but there is always the option to drive up to the top so you don’t have to miss out. One place I would recommend going to on the way up would be the little church there which overlooks the sea. If you are a walker, there are plenty of different walking paths including the Great Orme Nature Trail.
Great Orme Tramway
Another way to explore the Great Orme is to go on the Great Orme Tramway. This Victorian tramway has been helping tourists since 1902. On your tramway journey you’ll be met with winding roads and breath-taking views where you’ll be able to see as far as the lake district!
Cable Car
Can’t get enough of the beautiful scenery North Wales has to offer. Hop onto one of the cable cars which runs approximately 1 mile over the Great Orme. These cars are perfect if you want to step back in time to the 60’s with its bright yellow and blue pods that you can see from Llandudno’s seafront.
Happy Valley Gardens
Make sure when you visit Llandudno that you don’t forget to visit Happy Valley Gardens which have a display of all kinds of lovely flowers and shrubs. Where there are trees and shrubs you’ll be sure to see an array of different species of birds as you sit back and relax whilst looking at the view of the sea. Happy Valley has the most idyllic scenery for a picnic lunch in the bright sunshine.
There are plenty of different restaurants and bars to pop in to if your feeling a little bit peckish after a day of exploring, and plenty of shops. There are a variety of shops which include craft centres, antique fairs, record shops and of course your usual high-street stores.
So whatever you want to do on your next break make sure you take a break to a Llandudno hotel, a holiday that you will thoroughly enjoy, no matter what age you are.
